Slumdog Millionaire's Child Actors Azharuddin And Rubina

The Maharashtra government on Tuesday (February 24) announced that the child actors of 'Slumdog Millionaire', Azharuddin Ismail and Rubina Rafiq will be given a flat each. Azharuddin and Rubina stay at the Garib Nagar slum in Bandra East, Mumbai. Both of them played the role of youngest version of the lead characters, Jamal and Latika, in Danny Boyle's Oscar winning film 'Slumdog Millionaire'. During the 81st Academy Awards night on Sunday (February 22), both Azharuddin and Rubina were also present with the 'Slumdog' team.



The Mumbai-shot globally acclaimed film has bagged as many as eight Oscar Awards including the Best Picture. The Oscar Award list also includes the name of Indian music genius, AR Rahman who has bagged two Academy honours for his work in 'Slumdog Millionaire'. Rahman shared the second award with renowned lyricist Gulzar. Apart from them, Resul Pookutty has also won the Oscar honour for best sound mixing in the film.
The success of 'Slumdog' has managed to provide flats to slum dwellers Azharuddin and Rubina. Rubina’s father Rafiq is a casual carpenter while Azharuddin’s father Ismail trades in old furniture. The Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan announced the gifting of flats from the chief minister’s quota. According to media reports, the Mumbai unit of the Congress party has earlier approached the CM to allot flats for the 'Slumdog' kids.
